The most common myths about sustainable printing

Sustainable printing may seem like a process that could result in you making compromises, or impacting your day to day operations, however this really isn’t the case. Here are some of the most common misconceptions when it comes to sustainable printing.

Myth one: It costs too much

Put the words ‘eco-friendly’ in front of anything, and the first thing most people assume is that it must be expensive. When a business is involved in printing brochures, flyers, direct mail campaigns or even just business cards for all employees, it may sound like it would cost far too much to ‘go green’.

However, sustainable printing is no longer more costly than other options and can even cost less than traditional methods and supplies. If you shop around you’ll realise that you can be sustainable without breaking the bank. The best option however is to choose a professional printing partner who can handle your printing requirements for you whilst ensuring that the job they are doing meets sustainability standards.

Myth two: Paper is never sustainable

Sustainable paper doesn’t just refer to recycled paper. There is the possibility to purchase paper that has come from sustainable forests, i.e. forests that are replanted once trees have been cut down and paper that has been made without chlorine or any other toxic chemicals which are released into the environment.

When purchasing paper for any purposes, make sure to check its source before you buy. Always ask for a sample and to find out more about the company that produced it to ensure you are choosing a sustainable option.

Myth three: It won’t look as good

Now that we’ve established that sustainable paper is always an option, it’s time to crush the myth that eco-friendly inks won’t do the job as well as traditional inks. Eco-friendly inks do not release excessive emissions into the air, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t as vivid or as high quality. In fact, they have come on a long way in the last few years and are now almost indistinguishable from traditional inks.
