The impact of fraudulent cheque printers, from Scotland to Barbados!
Whether you’re sunning yourself in paradise, or trekking through the beautiful Highlands in Scotland it seems you’re never totally safe from fraudulent cheque printers.
The Times recently reported an influx of criminals based in Ukraine who have been targeting owners of holiday homes in Scotland, with a focus around fraudulent cheque printers. The fraudsters contact the owners to make a booking, and offer to pay with a cheque as opposed to using a credit card. In a clever twist, the crooks send a cheque for more than the deposit amount, and then ask that the owners refund the difference. For those who are successful, the owners refund the difference before cashing the original cheque, but when they do go to cash it, guess what? That’s right, it bounces!
Meanwhile, over in sunny Barbados two fraudulent cheque printers have been arrested on charges of falsely obtaining almost a million dollars using a forged CIBC FirstCaribbean International cheque.
