Pantone announces colour of the year for 2015
Pantone have announced their colour of the year for 2015 will be “Marsala”, an earthy red-brown colour similar to the colour of its namesake, Marsala wine. The Pantone Reference is PANTONE 15-1438.
Each year Pantone gathers a committee of colour experts to choose the colour of the year – driven by trends and usage around the world.
This year, the colour has been chosen because of its universal appeal and popularity in fashion, interiors and design. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute, said, “this hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.”
Marsala has already been seen on the Spring/Summer 2015 catwalks and many companies, such as beauty company Sephora, are already incorporating it into their product ranges.
Home furnishings company Kravet have created a range of soft furnishings using the colour.
You can also get a Marsala hue coffee machine, created by Keuring.
According to Pantone, Marsala is ideal for printed products, graphic design and packaging, as it is “eye-catching but not overwhelming or bright, and consumers are immediately drawn to the hue, making it an alluring shade at point of purchase. As packaging becomes increasingly more artistic, Marsala will be a natural fit for both high and low-tech materials, including on-shelf periodicals as well as printed assets, like calendars and stationery.”
It’s also said to appeal equally to men and women, and can be used with texture to add touches of luxury to packaging.
Pantone recommend pairing Marsala with lighter, brighter tones, such as light pinks, greys and greens. See the recommended colour pairings.
